The Alwen Reservoir
The Alwen Reservoir. This is about a mile past the Brennig Reservoir. The Scenery is outstanding and there is no traffic or livestock so the dogs can run free the whole time.
The area is operated by a water board. Paths are stoned so I recommend comfortable shoes with a thick sole. If you choose to do the circular walk it is approximately 6 miles and takes about 3 hours. There is an incline of about 100 meters from one end of the lake to the other, so there are some gentle inclines. At the far end of the lake, you cross an area of special scientific interest - the Mynydd Hiraethog SSI . I walked this last week and saw a skylark and a buzzard catch something just a few yards in front of me. You then come back round the lake over a footbridge and through woodland.
However, it is possible to do a shorter walk up the other side of the lake to the footbridge through woodland and alongside the water. There are benches along the way to have a rest.
There is plenty of parking. The water board charge £2.50 cash only. But when I went the machine was out of order, so it was free.
As this is high up on the Denbigh Moors it is advisable to bring a jacket. I will bring my poles for those that would like to use them.

Nant Mill, Coedpoeth
Hello All. Our next dog walk will be at Nant Mill, Coedpoeth. This is an easy level walk of just 2.5 miles - you'll be pleased to know! It follows a very nice river. The path is not paved so I suggest stout shoes in case of a bit of mud.
There are facilities at the car park, but the visitors centre seems to be permanently closed. However, there is an excellent picnic area with benches and tables, so bring a flask for coffee afterwards.
Parking is £1 cash or by calling the number on the machine. I think a card can be used as well.
The book took the walk right down by the river, but I found that a tree had come down and taken the path. So, unless you want to do a bit of crawling and climbing, we will stick to the main path. The dogs of course would love the scrambling bit!
However, there are plenty of places where we can get down to the river side for the dogs to play.
It is easy to find. From the Wrexham bypass and take the Ruthin exit. Go up the hill until you see the Coedpoeth sign. At this sign turn left following the brown sign to Nant Mill. Keep on this road, about a mile, and follow the brown sign. It takes you down into the carpark.

Wirral Country Park and Wirral Way.
Hello all, our next dog walking group meeting will be on Thursday 17th April. Glynn is leading the walk this time and taking us to explore part of the Wirral Country Park and Wirral Way. Meet at 10.30 in the car park
- Take the Queensferry by-pass. I am sure you all know that! Follow the sign A550 Birkenhead.
- At Two Mills turn left. There is a big set of traffic lights and a Mini dealership with Two Mills clearly marked.
- You are now on the A540. Keep on this road, past Gordale Garden Centre and Leahurst.
- Keep on the A540. You will come to a large roundabout with a Shell garage and 2 pubs - The Clegg Arms and The Devon Doorway. Take the first exit towards Heswall.
- Go straight through Heswall. Keep going until you come to a roundabout.
- At the roundabout turn left in to Station Road. This is a very short road. at the T junction turn right and follow this down to the Dee Estuary. You can't miss it!
- Park in the car park opposite Fliss's Cafe - a blue place that is obvious. There are 2 car parks. Glynn says the second one is the best.
- We are meeting at the visitor centre which is right behind Fliss's Cafe.

Talacre Beach
Hello all, our dog walk will be next Thursday, 19th September at Talacre Beach. Here are the directions.
Take the bottom coast road and go through Mostyn following the Prestatyn signs. Watch out - there are nasty hidden speed cameras! You will come to a roundabout. Turn right following the Talacre signs. Keep going along this road and you come into Talacre with a caravan site on your left. Keep going straight. Don't follow the sign to the overflow car park. You have a choice of parking. You will see a blue P sign on your right. You are supposed to pay £3 to park there if the attendant is around. You can also carry on over a little hump in the road and park for nothing on the hard sand car park. These car parks are very close together.
Part paved path and then sand, so comfortable shoes. Bring water for the dogs as there are no springs or taps. The pub 'The Point' says it will be open after 11 and does hot snacks and drinks. There are outside tables that are under cover.
Meet at 10.30am as usual. Please let me know if you are coming or not.
