The group is for those who are curious about their ancestry, both beginners and the more experienced. It doesn’t matter if your ancestor’s surname is common or rare, it can be researched.
At each meeting, the group adds to a list of what they would like from the group, which is included on the agenda for future meetings, or it could be an open meeting where everyone talks about their research successes, failures and ‘brick walls’.
Whether your ancestors were rogues or royalty, rich or poor, we want to hear about them and help you discover more about them.
We will be exploring the basic sources to get a family tree started, using Census Returns, Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates along with a look at Parish Registers. Also up for discussion will be the best method of recording research and which websites and tree-building programmes to use. There will also be opportunities to chat about family history in general; discoveries, pitfalls and brick walls. The aim is to have fun discovering the lives of our ancestors.
